I am Liz Gethings, your teacher, and the owner of "Piano Lessons with Liz".
My aim for all students, is that I want to help you learn a beautiful instrument, a talent that can stay with you for a lifetime, and a talent a lot of people "wish they had learned" (you won't believe how many adults say that to me)!
I really hope you enjoy browsing through my website, but should you have any further questions before making a decision as to whether you would like to start or not, please feel free to contact me for a chat, so that I can hopefully put you at ease.
Hopefully, here's to a musical future together!....
So, FIRST of all, this is what I believe lessons should be like and do all I can to ensure they are....
My Teaching Philosophies
I have taught piano for nearly 20 years now, and thoroughly enjoyed the rewards it can bring.
Teaching resources and methods have evolved throughout the years though, and am now happy to say that the books, knowledge, resources and methods of teaching are incredibly fun, exciting, creative and engaging, which means a very happy student, which in turn makes a very happy teacher :-)
To see someone flourish from not knowing one note to playing the classics, popular music, and/or passing exams is a great achievement for student and myself alike. Which path or journey we take is based on every single individual student. There is no 'one size fits all", so I do my best to really get to know someone and tailor their journey to their particular needs and desires/goals - whatever they maybe, within my capabilities of course!
I gained the highest grades in piano over 20 years ago, however, I have played piano from a young age, so I understand the trials and tribulations of playing the piano through the ages, and can empathise with those of any age in trying to learn a beautiful yet sometimes complex instrument. I have pupils from 5 years old to 75, and approximately 40 students at present, and each one with their individual struggles in learning the piano, as it does not come easy. But the small struggles against the infinite joy of playing a piece you love, is definitely worth it!
I have succeeded in passing many students through "The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music", although this Board is not exclusive and to date have a 100% pass rate. Its has been a great pleasure and privilege to help those students who wish to sit exams achieve their goals!
For those who wish to play just for fun and pleasure alone, those too have achieved great things, such as finally pursuing a long desired skill or just being able to show off when someone says "go on - play me something on the piano"!! Such a reward!
So if you have ever thought about learning for yourself or your child, then just take that first step, and give it a go, and be like those many others who have made their first step and now loving the journey :-))
